Link Paypal with Unionbank EON Debit Card

When I started blogging years ago, I considered creating a Paypal account because according to my blogger friends, most online transactions are made easy by this payment facility. Even if I haven’t understood completely what Paypal was all about, I still signed up. My account was even verified using my mother’s credit card. For the past years, my PP had zero transactions and things started to change only when I began freelancing and earning through blogging.
Since my account was idle for so long, I didn’t notice that the card I used to verify it has already expired. Therefore, my Paypal account was limited. To solve this problem, I need to get my own credit or debit card. Luckily, a friend of mine introduced Unionbank’s EON. She said that for only P 350.00, I will be able to get a debit card which can be used to verify my “now” active PP account. This means easy online transactions!
In just one day, I already got my own EON debit card… Yes! The application is fast and easy!
Here are the steps to follow if you want to get your own EON Debit Card which can be used to shop online, to verify your Paypal account and to withdraw your funds in Freelance sites.

1. Visit Unionbank’s EON Application Page
2. Complete the necessary fields (make sure the mobile number you provide is active and you choose carefully the pickup branch for your card)
3. Wait for the reference number that will be sent by Unionbank to your mobile number
4. Prepare two valid identification cards (for list of accepted cards, refer here)
5. Visit the pickup branch you have indicated in your application
(bring the two valid ids with one photocopy each and  P 350 annual fee)
6. Submit the requirements to the bank (approach the person in the information table)
You can complete all these steps in less than an hour. Like in my case, it only took me 45 minutes all in all to finish the transaction. After getting the EON debit card, you must wait for 24-48 hours before your account will be activated by the bank. Within that time duration, you can already enroll your card for online banking. This is very important because you will not be able to access your cyber account if you fail to do this step.
After two days, visit again Unionbank’s E-banking System. If you successfully logged in and checked your account, that means the bank has already activated your card. If you haven’t verified your Paypal account yet, you might consider doing these things.
1. Log in to your Paypal
2. Click the “Get Verified” link below your name
3. Add your EON Debit Card (take note: Paypal will get P 100 from your card to check if you really own the card number; but it will be credited back to your account after 24 hours)
4. Log in to your EON Cyber Account
5. Check the transaction details and look for the one sent by Paypal
6. In the transaction details you will see “VISA-PP*aaaaCODE”, copy the 4-digit code (aaaa)
7. Log back in to your Paypal and click “Get Verified”
8. You will be directed to a page where you have to type the 4-digit code
That’s it! You are now a verified Paypal member.
Should you want to withdraw your Paypal funds to EON, all you need to do is to click “Withdraw” link on the top of your Paypal page and choose “Withdraw Funds to your card.” There is a P 250 charge for this transaction. However if you have an existing bank account and withdraw your funds to the said account, the transaction fee will be free for withdrawal of P 7,000 or more. P 50 will be charged for withdrawal of P 6,999.99 or less. As you can see, choosing “Withdraw Funds to your bank account” is more convenient. Because of this, I always prefer withdrawing my funds to my LBP account.

Thank you for this post. I'll tell my friend about this. She's thinking of having a Paypal account but don't know how. Like you, she earns through online article writing, however, she uses xoom to get her payment. I told her to have a Paypal 'cause many uses it. This will help her.

  2. aLgene says:

Thanks Cherry! Oo, simple lang ang pagkuha ng Paypal account basta may debit or credit card lang. She'll enjoy more the benefits of being a verified PP member. πŸ™‚

    Anyway, ano yung xoom?

Thanks for this post Gene. Ang problem ko nung nag access ako sa website nila, wala dun sa list ng pick up branches yung Union Bank branch sa place namin. Kaya wala akong ma select na branch. Then hindi naman mag go go in yung application mo pag wala kang na check na pick up branch. The question is: instead of going through online, pwede bang deretso ka na sa Union? If yes, ilang days bago ma release ang card? Thanks.

  4. aLgene says:

Ate Kriz, as what I've learned, you need to register online muna which only takes 2-5 minutes. Like in my case, I only registered using my ipad then pgpunta ko sa bank, okay na agad. You can wait unrtil you they finish making your card 10-25 minutes.. You can register online naman one week before you bisit the bank. Just make sure you keep the reference number / sms notification that will be sent to your mobile number πŸ™‚

Daat kasi yung maselect mo na pick up branch, yun talaga pupuntahan mo. Hope nakatulog. Hehehe :p

Very informative, Algene. I have my own Eon account too. I do use it for shopping and online purchases. There's no more need for me to withdraw the money from ATMs coz you can readily use it for shopping at the malls just like a regular credit card. Just be sure you have enough cash in your account though, LOL! It certainly is hassle free.

    Hugs!

  6. Rayeo says:

You really did a post about it huh. (YOU ALREADY) LOL. Anyways, will refer to this soon but would prefer to have a conversation with you nalang.. if I'll be having difficulties in doing so =)

  7. Rovie says:

Very helpful post gene… Naa ko paypal and EON card pero wala pa nako nakuha sa branch…Hehehe

Siguro pag medyo daghan na raket ang paypal pwde na…

    Salamat ani…

  8. aLgene says:

@Lainy: Ay tama ate noh? πŸ™‚ Useful pala talaga ang EON card even for over the counter transactions.. Di ko pa na-try na mag-online shopping using the debit card. Hehehe

@Rayeo: Wala man gud koi ma-post maong ako nalang gishare. Hehehe :p Feel free to ping me on skype or message on fb πŸ™‚

@Rovie: Kuhaa na ate, malay mo. Hehe. Aha diay ninyo gntransact ni Joseph ang payment for the articles? πŸ™‚

  9. I have already renewed my eon so it's my 4th year. πŸ™‚

  10. aLgene says:

    Congrats sa'yo! Happy ebanking. πŸ™‚

Sa tinigin ko Algene, base sa pagkakaintindi ko sa website nila. If you cannot register/apply online, you can go personally dun sa bank pero twice ka pupunta. First, to apply and register, then wait for 5 business days before ka bumalik para naman dun sa pag release ng card mo. Hind kasi naisama yung Union Bank branch sa amin sa list ng naka declare online. Hayy…kaloka. Bat ba ayaw nila i update yung list. hahaha! pahirapan pa ba.

  12. aLgene says:

Try mo nalang ate Kriz. Tutal, malapit ka ng umuwi! Kahit di tayo magkita, na-excite pa rin ako sa thought na you're finally going home πŸ™‚

Mas madali talaga ate na online ka nalang magregister. Tapos you choose the pick up branch na pinaka-sure na mapupuntahan mo. Kasi ang alam ko, once you have the reference number na which will be sent via SMS notification, naka-list na sa system ng Unionbank. Tapos pagpunta mo sa bank, less than an hour lang ang transaction πŸ™‚

Pero may CC ka na so di mo na siguro kelangan ng EON, dba? hehehe πŸ˜›

  13. i already linked my EON card to paypal since last year! and that was great! my online writing sites pay me thru paypal! but kapag sa blogger, dba sa google adsense un… pwede ba matransfer ung google adsense payment sa paypal?

    It’s a GIRL Thing

  14. aLgene says:

Naku. Wala akong Google Adsense, na-ban na. So, I can't answer your question. Hehehe πŸ™‚ Thanks for the regular visit sa blog ko ha?

Wala ka rin bang G Ads account?

Yan din ang gamit ng sister ko sa mga blogging churvah nya. Ako namn may paypal account pero ginagamit ko lang pag namimili online.

  17. aLgene says:

@Gian: Easy application lang kasi for a debit card. Hindi katulad sa CC πŸ™‚ Wait ka lang sa prize ha. Within this week πŸ™‚

@Anney: Hindi kasi tinatanggap ng iTunes and AppStore ang PP so never ko pa nagamit for online shopping. Payments lang for services, etc πŸ™‚

  18. Jan Carlo says:

Hi, aLgene. I followed the steps you detailed in your post above, but I got stuck on the online banking enrollment bit. I got my EON card 2 days ago, and I decided to enroll it for online banking today. I filled up all the necessary information fields on the UnionBank online banking enrollment site, but as I clicked the submit button for the last step, a status message popped up, saying, "Invalid Third Party EON Account."

I'm hoping you can help me here. I really don't think I did anything wrong, but perhaps you can help me find out what that status message means, exactly. It's pretty vague, so I don't know what's actually wrong with my enrollment request. Thanks, by the way. Your post is where I got the idea to get my PayPal verified, but right now it seems I've hit a temporary setback. πŸ™‚

  19. Jan Carlo says:

Never mind my previous comment. As of this comment, I'm now a verified PayPal member, using my EON card. That temporary setback was quite short-lived. I tried again with my enrollment request for a few more times, and eventually, I got my EON enrolled, and got my PayPal account verified.

Today I managed to transfer my PayPal funds to my bank account, and anytime in the near future I expect I'll be able to withdraw my money via ATM. All thanks to this very helpful post of yours. πŸ™‚

Hi! I just want to share my experience with eon paypal. July 26 2012 9am I applied for an eon online. I choose Renaissance Branch in Ortigas since that's the nearest branch to me. Confirmation was sent to me immediately via SMS a minute after applying online that I could already pick up the card that same day. I went to Unionbank at around 1pm, provided 2 Valid ID's and TIN number. Got my eon card at around 1:15pm July 26, 2012. Before I left, the teller told me that the card will be activated after 24 hours. So I waited for 24 hours.

July 27, 2012 2pm, I went to the Paypal site and tried to verify my Paypal account using EON. Paypal accepted the card. I called the Unionbank Hotline to ask for the Expuse number. I entered the Expuse number to my account on Paypal and got verified. My paypal is verified on July 27, 2012 2:15pm.

Important: Make sure that your name and address on your EON account exactly match your name and address on your Paypal account. If not, Paypal wont let you verify your account.

    • Algene says:

Thanks for sharing a very detailed information about your transaction with EON and Paypal πŸ™‚ It is important to have the same name on the debit card and Paypal.

  28. Hi there. I'm Julie.
I already linked my EON to Paypal last week. Then withdraw my money immediately, so am expecting after 2-4days, but it wasn't the paypal emailed me that my bank declined it. so i have to put another bank account. so what i did i remove it and re-enter my EON card. Then the paypal sent my money back again, and it has 300php deduction. Now I withdraw it again, for the second time, its been 4days since i withdraw it. and still i don't have it in my EON card. I emailed the UNIONBANK at the as well, but no responds. I was really mad because of what's going on. Please help me about this matter, thank you so much.

    • Algene says:

Please visit the nearest Unionbank branch in your area. I'm sure, the employees will be happy to assist you. Please note that it takes one to two weeks before you can get your EON card. πŸ™‚ Hope this helps!

    Hi anon,

Your withdrawn paypal funds will reflect to your bank within 2-4 business days. If you withdraw your paypal funds on Friday, the expected day the funds will reflect to your bank account is on Monday evening or it will reflect on the next evening.

If you cannot wait to encash your paypal funds, I recommend you to use Peso Exchanger. They will encash your paypal funds even on weekends and even on holidays. They will send the exchange of your paypal funds by sending it through online banking to your bank account. For more information about Peso Exchanger's withdrawal service, you can check this link http://pesoexchanger.com/paypal-withdrawal-service/

  30. Hi! I already got my EON card just this afternoon. Since I'm always in a hurry, I didn't wait for the 24hr activation anymore and enrolled to my EON Cyber Account right away at unionbank.ph. It was succesfully registered but I have to wait in the next 2 days to login. Ugh. My friend advised that I can setup my account on PayPal while waiting. As I checked paypal.com, everything was running smoothly til I got stuck on getting the Expuse number since I can't login to my eon cyber account yet to check on the transaction history where the 4-digit code is located. I also can't call their toll free number because I don't have any remaining load balance. Question: Is this going to cause any problems? Will the Expuse number show up once my eon account is activated? I'm worried it might not and I won't be able to verify my PayPal. I can't wait for another two days, my boss is going to kill me. Help!

    • Just wait for the activation of your EON account online πŸ™‚ The expuse number will show up in your account once activated. In case you encounter problems again, feel free to call the toll free number. UB has a great set of employees who will be happy to assist you.

Don't worry, your Paypal account will still be verified. Just take note that a value of more or less P500 will be deducted from your EON account to verify your PP account. The P500 will be credited back to your account after verification. Good luck, Kat!

I made a transaction last Aug 25 but I forgot to verify my eon card yet. Last Sept 2 I successfully verified my eon but up until now I have not received my money. I talked to one of the UNION CSR but they informed me that I should be able to see my money back last aug 25-sept1 since my card was not yet verified. But the problem is no money was refunded or returned by Paypal except for the 100php on the 4 digit code processing. Can someone help or advise me what to do? Thank you.
