Top 5 Things I Look Forward To Every Kadayawan Season

Just by thinking about Kadayawan already brings so much excitement in me. There is something about this festival that makes me feel more alive during the month of August. 2017 is the 10th year that I will be celebrating Kadayawan in Davao city. While I may be busy these days, I will make it to a point that this year’s celebration is going to be an epic one for me! In this article, let me share the top five things that make me excited about this annual festival celebrated by every Dabawenyo.

1. The Smell and Taste of Durian

While durian may be available for any day of the year, its price is relatively low and affordable during the Kadayawan season. For the previous months, the price for this fruit was around Php 250 to Php 300. But since the King of the Festivals is fast approaching, the price is now down to Php 100 or less. There is a high supply of Durian anywhere in Davao city during the celebration of Kadayawan. As a big fan of the Puyat and Arancillo variety of Durian, this is such a good news for me. It means that I can now give in to my cravings for durian without spending much for it.

2. Food Trips Everywhere

I love to eat. You love to eat. We all love to eat. That is why hearing the words “food trips” is like hearing music to our ears. Somehow, there is comfort in knowing that we can have the food trip we want anytime we like. This is made easier during the Kadayawan season as many pop-up food bazaars are made available. We can finally have a one-stop place for all our food cravings — from street food to pinoy favorite dish to desserts. We can try all the dishes we want from some homegrown Davao restaurants just in one area.

Davao city will surely become more cheerful with the line up of activities prepared by the City Government. One of the events that I look forward to every year is the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan which showcases dance contingents from different regions of Mindanao. What is to love about it? The theatrical street dancing  anchored on Indigenous traditions. It will start from Roxas Avenue to San Pedro Square.

4. Pop-Up Stores

Kadayawan is also the best time to shop from several sellers or suppliers. Most of the exhibitors in the pop-up bazaars sell their products only through their online accounts. However, for the Kadayawan season, they are going to bring their best-selling items in a one-stop area to make shopping more fun and convenient for everyone.

On August 17-20, the Great Kadayawan Trade Fair and Bazaar will be open again. Enjoy the Holiday Payday Weekend at the Davao Convention Trade Center. The Event will feature the widest variety of products ranging from home-made jams, hand woven baskets, RTW’s, Real Estate, and a leap to into the motoring industry with aftermarket parts and accessories.

5. Kadayawan Promos (SUPER SALE)

What an exiting line-up. Can't wait for it to begin. And who can say no to a sale? Is going to be epic.

  2. What's up in any festivity? It's more on the festivity's historical value, cultural and the like or otherwise. We know that people are generally attracted to local festival if it has something much to do with the culture of the place. But it seems that business takes its opportunity for that particular activities. Well, that is how business operates whether we take it or not. Anyway good luck to Kadayawan Festival. More power.

  3. Hey, thanks for teaching me something new. I love posts where I can learn about new cultures. I am sure the festival is wonderful.

Being away for 10 years means missing 10 years worth of fun and food during Kadayawan. They've got durian here, but nothing beats Durian from Davao.

  5. The Kadayawan activities seem very fun! Food stalls and pop-up stores can make any event more exciting.
