#GLOBEProjectWonderful2014: One Thing I Can Give to the Philippines
“If there is one thing you can give to the Philippines, what is that gift?” Answering this question is not an easy thing to do. As much as possible, I would like to give every single best thing to my dear country. I believe that the Philippines and the Filipino people deserve all the good things this world has to offer. My fellow countrymen deserve happiness, contentment, love, peace of mind and hope. Every Filipino family has a right to eat three times a day, experience a worry-free life and be close to one another. Every child is worthy of having a loving family and a home he can call his own. He does not deserve to be in the streets begging for something to eat and wandering with nowhere to go.
If only I have the power to be someone else, I would definitely choose to become a genie so that I can grant wishes and make dreams come true. In case it happens, I would not only grant one or three wishes but all the desires of the Filipinos. However, reality bites and tells me that I will never be a true genie. Well, if I can’t be one then I’m sure I can always act like one. I want to make everyday a perfect time for giving and sharing!
So, if there is one special gift that I can give to the Philippines, it would certainly be my TIME.

Many of you are probably wondering why I chose to give away my time. Will it even have a good effect to the community? Yes, I believe so. To give my time to the Philippines means to give a thing which is truly valuable in my life and a thing I do not consider as “extra.” In fact, I sometimes feel that 24 hours a day is never enough to do all the things I want, to grow my relationship with other people, to be a good student and to complete my tasks. At the end of the the day, the question will always be “Did I make a good use of my time?”
Now that I am given an opportunity to give one special thing, that gift would be “TIME to share the simple joys in life.” Let me quote Rick Warren in his best-selling book entitled The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For. He said “Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time. It is not enough to just say relationships are important; we must prove it by investing time in them. Words alone are worthless.”
I want to share a big part of my life to those who deserve all the goodness in this world. To share my time in sharing the simple joys in life means to give a part of my life to my fellow countrymen. I want to be of service to other people. I want to make the Filipinos believe that they are worthy of receiving hope, faith, love and happiness. I wish that each and everyone of us can give a part of our lives to our fellow Filipino people. Imagine the positive changes we can make if we just learn how to share a wonderful time with each other.
This is how I would like to share the simple joys in life:
Give TIME to remind the kids in foundations that they are truly loved. There are many children in different charitable institutions who are more than worthy of receiving love, care and understanding. I want to reach out to them and let them feel that they are not alone in their journey. I want to spend a wonderful time with them by giving them toys, playing with them, preparing meals for the little ones and reading books for them.

Give TIME to share hope to the victims of calamities. In the past few weeks, we have heard of the different places in the Philippines which were greatly hit by typhoons. These left many families homeless and devastated for the loss of their loved ones. I can’t imagine how hard it was for most of them to survive but lost everything and every person that matters in their lives. They are the ones who need the sincere support of the whole Filipino community. It is important that I become one of the torches that will light their ways in this moment of darkness. I want to be one of the persons who will make them feel that there is still hope.
#GLOBEProjectWonderful2014: Do relief operations for the victims of typhoons and help them rebuild their homes.
Give TIME to reach out for the street children. It saddens me whenever I see young and innocent children begging in the streets when they should be at school learning about Science, Mathematics, Christian Living and other subjects. Just because they don’t have enough money to enroll themselves for school doesn’t mean that they cannot learn. Education should be made available to all Filipino children, not only to those who can afford it.

Give TIME to always get connected with the ones I love. The secret to a happy relationship is constant communication. I can attest to this because I am a daughter of an OFW but never in my entire life have I felt alone. The everyday calls of my father give me comfort and make me feel happy. Aside from my close relationship with my dad, constant communications also allowed me to strengthen my bonds with my high school friends even if we are already miles away. Instead of giving all my time to studies and work, I will now choose to spend it with my family and friends. I know that they are the ones who should be my number one priority.

If there is one thing I can give to my own country, it would be my life of service by example. I am just an ordinary citizen but I am capable to serve my fellow humanity by reaching out and extending my helping hands as long as I have and I can.
I wish I can also share my time but it is not possible because of distance. However, my husband and I have been and continue to share our blessings to the less fortunate grade school children, high school and college kids by sending them to schools via sponsorship through a non profit organization based in the Philippines. It is our vision to see these kids and teens to do their share ones they are empowered and pay forward so that more and more kids will have access to education.
No Pinoy kid should be deprived to getting the education that they deserve!

My answer would be FREE EDUCATION for the deserving Filipino children. As you pointed out in your post above, every Filipino child deserves a good education. The greatest treasure in this world is education and if I can give it to the kids, then I'm sure that the Philippines will have a great future. Excellent education will produce great leaders!
you give a very precious gift, Algene, reminds me of the many things I was involved in when I was still there. However, now, being far away, I believe, what I give is hope, to the students I am sending to school through a non-profit organization there, which I hope to see them become professionals and hopefully, the example I am giving to them, will inspire them to pay it forward, so that like J, there will be no child left behind in there. I strongly believe in the power of education in changing lives.

This is a great project, but for me it is better to do something rather than talk about it. There have been a lot of tragedies that hit the PH last year. I hope this time around actionable solutions are put in place to prevent or at least minimize the devastation caused by such natural disasters.
Love.. even in my own little ways.. We tend to hate our country and the system with all that has been happening in the past years, but in the end, we still care for this nation. All the more we need to show compassion to those who direly need it in this time of crisis, because who else will.

Our country is faced with issues of crime, corruption, and natural disaster and it's unfortunate that most of these are the effects of the absence or lack of love. So, if there is one thing I can give to the Philippines, it would be LOVE. There can never be too much love to give and never enough love to receive. For me, it is all that we need in order to be a better nation. If only every Filipino loved himself, he would know his worth as a person and value life sacred. Consequently, his love for himself would make him love others, too. There would be no need to covet other people's hard-earned possessions or to murder someone in exchange of a sum of money, because the love cultivated in his heart seeds kindness, generosity, compassion and gentleness towards others. There would be no need to throw dynamite as a selfish means of catching fish, or to burn an entire forest of young trees just for profit, because love knows how to care for nature and his surroundings. You, me, and them, let's give our country a little love, it doesn't have to big to count. To be a lover of the Philippines means to do our roles well as a mother, father, daughter, son, student, worker, official, whatever designation it is that you have, to give love is to give it for free.

Faith. Faith in the Filipino people and Faith in our country. I'm hoping that someday, the Philippines will get back its pride and glory.
It's like valuing the saying "TIME is of the essence." It's putting meaning and significance into every act that you do, given the time that you're allotted. Time is definitely a precious gift that you can share not just to your loved ones, but to other people as well (especially who may need it the most). Now that we're living in a fast paced life, giving some of your time will truly go along way — more so, will be cherished.
My friend your lines struck a familiar chord in me. So true are the words you shared. I myself am a living witness to that. A TIME shared is a memory remembered, a lesson learned.
I feel your desire of sharing your time mother country. Back when I was young I used to spend some of my time in the streets to join rallies because I believe in what I do. That time when I had to share a plate of rice and a fried fish with a fellow in a rally, someone who toils the everyday labor of a farmer left in me an indelible mark, that I must have my own share of serving my country. I never liked teaching, I never dreamt of becoming one. I do have a lot of things I wanted to become an archaeologist, a botanist, a veterinarian, a designer, a writer but never a teacher. Yet, God must have seen that through teaching I can become His steward, not the perfect one maybe, but one who could inspire younglings regardless of their number to love their country, to protect environment, to strive their best to become good citizens of their country, to their fellows, to give utmost respect to their parents, to laws, above all to keep their faith to God’s master plan despite hardships and challenges. I have been in the academe now for 19 years, I have students who have succeeded in their own fields, and to which I am so equally proud because in those times that I spent with them, inside the classroom and outside it, they have come to appreciate what I taught them not on the subjects we have in their courses but the life experiences I shared to them. The time I spent with my students is the promise I fulfilled and is continuously fulfilling for Filipinas. There was a time when I stopped teaching when I entered law school, the first semester. I stopped because I thought I am done with teaching, because I do not see myself teaching for the rest of myself, I was wrong. The more I learned more about laws every night the more I am egged to continue my time with my students. There are a lot of things worth sharing to them nowadays. Every time a former student would thank me of how I have touched his or her life I would always ask him or her to pay it forward. You are in your right path Gene, continue this work as if your survival depends on it. The numbers of those you touched do not count, for numbers will multiply, that is where the miracle lies.
LOVE for the country is the one gift that I would like to give to the Philippines. As the old saying goes, "Love begets love." With love for the country, the Filipino community will become better and stronger. With love for one another, the Filipinos can rise as a nation and create a big change for the best interest of the Philippines.

Sa aking palagay dito mag-uugat ang kaunlaran ng ating bayan. Tayong mga Pilipino ang yaman ng ating bayan. Kaya sana ibalik natin ang yaman na ito sa Pilipinas. Kung may pagpapahalaga ang mga Pilipino sa Pilipinas, wala sana tayong polusyon ngayon. Katulad ng isang bahay, hindi mo hahayaang madumi ito at hindi mo din ito dudumihan. Hindi ka magtatapon ng kalat sa kung saan. Ituturing mo ang bansang ito bilang iyong tahanan na hindi mo kailanman pababayaan na masira.
Sa tulong ng Globe, maaari nating bigyan ang bawat tao sa isang komunidad na gumawa ng isang resolusyon (kagaya nang hinding hindi nako kailanman magtatapon ng basura sa maling lugar) para sa bansang ito na personal at espesyal sa kanila. If there's one gift I can give to our country, it would be the gift of BEING A PRIDE OF THE COUNTRY. As a Filipino citizen, I want to give pride to our country, being good and worthy citizen. Even in a small way, I know just being a good citizen by obeying its own law, I myself is already a one pride of my country. By being able to finish schooling and able to earn for a living. By being able to help my family. And most especially by being able to reach out to those who are in need. I will start to make a difference and be my country's pride.
I would like to give the Philippines an Empowerment Package.
The Empowerment Package is a series of program plans designed and customized for every individual in a target community for its long-term survival and sustainability. Every community is composed of basic, important unit: The Family. The package consists of specific programs designed for each family members and since the composition and dynamics of a Filipino family has evolved through the years, the assignments are definitely not gender-specific. Below is the list of the identified typical Filipino family member and the customized empowerment program for their role in the family:
The Family leader. The family leader will be given resources, materials and will be trained for livelihood projects that can make way for future income.
The Home maker. The home makers will be given basic tools to start up.
The Contributor/Believer – Family members that fall under this category may have the option to join the Homemakers and Family Leader.The contributor/believer's role is to keep the ball rolling.
The Learner -The Learners are the youth who would like start or continue their education beyond the limitations of the physical walls of a classroom. Globe can set up virtual classrooms with facilities and internet connections for free to be used for communication with relatives in other parts of the country or abroad, and establish distance learning programs.
The Wonderer – The wonderers are infants to children in pre-school. They will be assigned together in a make shift day care center or pre-school to undergo counseling or debriefing by volunteers and participate in enjoyable learning activities for them to make the most of their childhood.
The Empowerment Package is designed for long-term sustainability of each families in a community and at the same time provide support, boost self-esteem and confidence for each individual affected. The best thing about the Empowerment Package is it is not only it is implementable to those affected by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), it is also applicable and may also be adopted by other communities in our country, including those who are residing in the city but happened to be living in depressed areas. In short it does not cater only to one affected area alone, it is implementable in the entire Philippines!

With a little more of that, then we'll not just be the pearl of the orient, we can even be the diamond, or gold. Whichever one is more valuable. 🙂
My answer would be KINDNESS.. Why?
Because first of all, yes Filipinos are hospitable, resilient and strong people. But behind these strong qualities, we tend to be sensitive, forgiving and patient. But to have kindness to each and every Filipino is one way that we, are very kind too! Even a little act of kindness can be a big deal to others. If we can just exhibit that trait to everyone can make both of you wear a smile. 🙂

The most valuable gift that I can give to the Philippines, my dear country, is PATRIOTISM. It is the one thing that every Filipino needs. If there is patriotism, then all the good things will follow. There will be more opportunities for people. Filipinos will then learn to appreciate the good side of every negative situation that comes their way. Instead of talking about the bad politics in the Philippines, the Filipino people should keep their faith with the government and do the necessary changes that will make the Philippines the best country… not only in Asia but in the whole world.
what i would like to give to the philippines is access to good education.we also have a charity organization that helped public schools in-need. and with those that we've visited we saw how deprived some public schools are in terms of comfortable classrooms and school supplies for the students. comfortable classrooms are very important because not having good educational environment is one great factor for their learning.
You offer the very valuable gift of time. If someone with a magic wand would ask me what I want to give to our country, I would promptly wish for respectable leaders but if I were to be asked what I could give the Philippines, I can only offer my writing skill for it to be used for whatever purpose it can serve the country. It has been said that if only people did their respective duties to the best of their abilities, we wouldn't have so much problems as we do now. There is no small contribution, just small intentions. To borrow the words of a saint, we need not do extraordinary things but we can do the everyday things we do extraordinarily well.

Yes your presence and sincere service will mean a lot to them! As an INGO professional and working with children, reading this gave me hope that the spirit of volunteerism is alive among the young people out there. This is a great idea! My gift to the Philippines though is a little different.
One thing I noticed is that whenever someone posts a picture showing the beauty of our country, Pinoys are quick to say, "Wow ang ganda! Parang wall ka sa Pinas!"
Why is that?
Our country is beautiful. I'm not only talking about white sand beaches or amazing waterfalls all over our tourism posters; I'm talking about beauty in the unexpected – a cozy little cafe in an eskinita in Quezon City, or an ukay haven hidden away in Paranaque. Our country is bursting with culture and stories to tell, but when Filipinos look around, they focus on the negative.
People don't see the food trip opportunities around Katipunan, or the art and culture of The Collective, or the musical playground of Cubao X. How can we expect foreigners to appreciate our country when we can't even do that ourselves? How can we expect to grow as a nation when we lack a very important aspect: love of country?
With this in mind, the idea I came up with is a website or app that shows the unexpected beauty of our country.
The purpose of the website/app is simple: Become a tourist in your own city, and fall in love with it. Just like how Parisians love Paris, or New Yorkers love the Big Apple, it's possible for the people of Manila to fall in love with Manila – dirt, pollution, culture and all.
"MNL 143 – Love This City" – The site or app will thrive on submissions or posts by regular people. Users take photos of both popular and popular places they think people should see and experience. They can post great food finds, events, and other happenings that people rarely see or visit. They can also include a guide to the place! (ex. Newbie's Guide to Divisoria) This gives people a chance to experience the city in a way they've never experienced before. I bet people who've lived in Manila their whole lives have yet to experience the city beyond the typical malls and will appreciate hole-in-the-wall boutiques and surprises. This project will allow Filipinos to appreciate our own, instead of always longing for the beauty of other countries.
Over time, the website/app can expand by including other cities like Cebu, Davao, etc. This project will do so much more than just supply Filipinos with information that will change the way they look at the country / the city. Instead of seeing Manila as overpopulated and dirty, maybe we can all start appreciating the culture and all the things Manila has to offer.
When you love someone, you are willing to do anything and make sacrifices to make that person happy. In the same manner, when you love your country, you become more cooperative if it means you'll be contributing to its growth and development. Improving our country can't come from political reforms or mass-feeding projects if we can't even cover the basics. First, we must love our country, and the rest will follow.

The best gift I could give to our country is SOLACE. Our country badly needs comfort because it is in distress and in great sadness. We suffer from catastrophe, calamities, war, and chaos; but we always have to be reminded that we have each other. We live in the same land and we are Filipinos. I want to give the gift of light to the Philippines. More specifically the gift of SOLAR POWER. As a victim of the super typhoon Yolanda, wherein we totally had no communication due to power outage for a while and even until now electricity has not been fully restored in many places that were in Yolanda’s path, having backup power coming from SOLAR Energy is truly indispensable. Too much chaos occurs in the dark at night when a lot of people cannot rest easy for fear of thieves and looters. Having light (literally!) in these dark and trying times is what we truly need. But I do also wish for every Filipino household, Yolanda victim or not, to have 100% sustainable hybrid homes and eco-friendly houses that combine rainwater harvesting and clean energy generation (THINK: UNLIMITED WATER SUPPLY & SOLAR POWERED HOUSES!). This way our electric bills and carbon footprints will be largely diminished as well as we can show our love for Mother Earth.

One gift that I can give to our country is my generous and open heart to help those who need in my own way and to be a responsible citizen who follows the laws. I hope to be a good example so Philippines will be more orderly, cleaner and filled with law-abiding, and peace loving people we can be proud of.
Sharing is one gift I can give to our co-Filipinos, I mean if we are blessed enough why not share it to those who needs right?
Just like you, I think time is the best gift I could ever give to my country Philippines. Time to share whatever I can to my countrymen especially those who are needy. I believe when can make this country a better place if each of us will share our skills, talent, compassion and most of all act according to what is expected of us. We can also give our time to make a difference in the lives of the people around us.

Though I have an extensive explanation of my gift on my own post for #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014, here's another gift I would give to my countrymen if can:
Helping hands. A million helping hands.
After Yolanda, I realized that a LOT of people are willing to help. It was my first time to volunteer and repack donations and it was amazingly heartwarming to see strangers talking to each other, hand in hand and helping each other with only one goal for the day. And I want that again, not only during calamities but every single day.
There are still people out there who needs help, RIGHT NOW. Just look at the street children and displaced people everyday.
Here's the plan inside my head: An organization where people of ALL ages — from grandparents to high schoolers, can join and browse for "projects" online, much like browsing for available jobs, where they can volunteer/donate. This organization can build a lot of projects for different kind of things!
Example:
San Andres Area: Soup Kitchen — 2/3/14 @ 7pm.
Needed: 5 volunteers to cook, 5 volunteers to distribute, 10 Males for crowd control.
Materials: 4 tables, Bring your own cooking utensils and casserole.
Poblacion area: Basket Ball Court Rebuilding — 3/15/14 @ 3pm.
Needed: 10 Males for rebuilding bleachers, 10 volunteers to repaint
Materials: 3 Red paints, Nails, Bring your own hammers
Boni area: Basic Tutoring Class — 4/20/14 @ 8am – 6pm
Needed: 20 volunteers to teach, 10 volunteers to make food.
Materials. Teachers must bring 5 recycled papers and pencils each. Food makers must bring 10 eggs and bread.

Given the chance to give a gift for the Philippines, I think it would be the "Gift of Light". We are all aware that some families here on the country still don't have access to light, for they don't have the means to pay for electric bills.
Now, an organization called the "Liter of Light" had the same advocacy – to bring lights to Filipino homes by just using PET bottles, water, bleach, and other materials that improvises the light bulb that we use today. Since most of our activities occur in the morning and in the afternoon, this may not cover the whole day, but can help these families most of the day. Not only this project is attainable, but it is also affordable.
If Globe and Liter of Light work hand-in-hand, through my wish, I think that the Philippines would be a brighter place with a brighter future.

If you have money, you can buy time, that also includes other people's time, spent working for you. So I agree that you are giving something valuable.

You can share every inch of your knowledge to all Filipinos to influences them from their way of living, loyalty to our country and discipline them to work for the betterment of the whole world.
Love, hope and time really are the things that will make the world better. I agree that we should give time to give love and hope to other people as we do for ourselves.
Do you think that we need more 24 hours in a day to complete all the good chores for the benefit of the Filipinos? I agree, time is essential. My gift for the Philippines would be patience and determination to move progressively.
I think time is something we can really give to the world as every little time you spend to uplift others can make the world a brighter place.
Time is indeed essential but I'll offer PRAYER and COMPASSION, which our country mostly needs right now.
TIME is precious and it's indeed one of the best things one can give.

If only I can give 1 gift to the Philippines – that would be , a better government. We know the reality, our government is corrupt – ranks on the top. If only I can change the governance for this country, I will do my best to improve it.
One thing that I can give to the Philippines…hmmm.. that would be Time. Time is a "Measurement" and it's important because it helps us "Organize" and "Manage" our lives in relation to everyone and everything around us.
If there was no time, everything would happen at once. Time keeps events separated, like space keeps matter separated.
If there's one thing that I can give to the Philippines, it's kindness. Because in kindness, you share a piece of your time to help or at least make other people other than your family and friends happy.
I will do my best to use my education and life experiences to help the less fortunate people of the Philippines as much as i can.. Everyone needs a chance to improve their lives.. If i can help them, then i have really accomplished something! I want to inspire them to do better and give them more of a sense of direction in life..
