Kadayawan in Davao 2012

Kadayawan is one of the biggest festivals in the Philippines. It is celebrated annually by all Dabawenyos and Dabawenyas. Every month of August, the people of Davao gather all together and give thanks to the bountiful blessings received by the city. The word Kadayawan is derived from the Mandaya word, “Madayaw.” It means “good, valuable, superior or beautiful.”
This festival is a way of thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living. Kadayawan 2012’s theme is “Ten Tribes One Vibe.” The tribes of Tausug, Matigsalog, Obu Manuvu, Maguindanaon, Bagobo Tagbawa, Sama, Bagobo Klata, Maranao, Ata and Kagan are the tribes who graced the festive celebration of Kadayawan.
There are two main events that I love about this festival! First is the Indak-Indak where different groups showcase their talents by dancing on the streets. For this year, I wasn’t able to witness the Indak-Indak for some unwanted reasons. The second most-loved event is the Pamulak sa Kadayawan or commonly called the Floral Parade.
Of course, I was there to witness the grand floral festival where contingents feature their entries decorated with beautiful flowers and gifts of nature.
At Rizal Street, Davao City.
With my blogger friend, Naprey Almario!
Colorful. Happy. Lively. Davao.
This is one of my most favorite floats!
Kisan Lu Float won the first place for the Pamulak sa Kadayawan.
Prize is P500,000.

Jake Cuenca and Jessy Mendiola – Coca Cola Float.
Maja Salvador, John Lloyd Cruz, Angelica Panganiban, Cory Vidanes
ABS-CBN Float

One of the promising actors in the country.

Happy celebration.
Hiyas ng Kadayawan.
Indeed, Kadayawan celebration is getting bigger every year! This only means that the city tourism is becoming more successful in showing what Davao offers to everyone. The festival is not only celebrated by Dabawenyos and Dabawenyas. Many people from other cities also visit Davao to have fun and enjoy the month-long celebration of the King of Festivals.

Hope to see you next year for Kadayawan 2012!
