Learn the Art of Writing (How to Submit Open Letters at TCC)

I am the type of person who always has a pen and a notebook or a journal inside my bag. Aside from the “girly” items, these are the things that I always bring wherever I go. For everytime that I feel a sudden rush of emotions or the lack of it, I write on my journal or blog about it. Writing, whether the traditional way or through the use of technology, is undoubtedly therapeutic. It is one of the best and easy ways to release the burdens that we feel, to take note of the special moments worth remembering and to finally say words we are afraid to let out.

We write for the same reason that we walk, talk,
climb mountains or swim the oceans – because we can.
We have some impulse within us that makes us
want to explain ourselves to other human beings.
That’s why we write
that’s why we dare to love someone –
because we have the impulse to explain who we are.

In connection to this, I am (finally) proud to announce the creation of a new page “Open Letters” at The Coffee Chic. With this page, people from all over the world can start submitting their letters via email or through this form and I can publish it on my site. Senders can choose to make their identity known or use a pen name or remain anonymous.
The primary reason for creating this page is to give persons an avenue where they can just let everything out, without the fear of being judged for their honesty and bravery to say what they have always wanted to say. It is about time to let go of all the inhibitions. Moreover, the letters can also help or inspire some readers.
Two ways on how one can submit letters:
1. Email algene@iamthecoffeechic.com
2. Fill in this form
Writing letters can set our spirits free. It can make us feel lighter and happier. Instead of keeping things to ourselves, let us practice being open about it. Happy writing!
Here is my favorite “fiction” letter of all-time, from the movie “Letters to Juliet”:

Claire,
‘What’ and ‘if’ are two words as nonthreatening as words come. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life. What if? What if? What if?
I don’t know how your story ended.  But I know that if what you felt then was love — true love — then it’s never too late. If it was true then, why wouldn’t it be true now? You need only the courage to follow your heart.
I don’t know what a love like that feels like — a love to leave loved ones for, a love to cross oceans for. But I’d like to believe if I ever felt it, I’d have the courage to seize it. I hope you had the courage to seize it, Claire. And if you didn’t, I hope one day that you will.
All my love,Juliet

You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say.

PS Nothing beats sending handwritten letters or writing on your journals. If you could not write one,  then at least, have the courage to talk to the other person and be honest about everything.

Hi Algene, this is a wonderful idea. We tend to write short messages these days, but I bet there are many who would love to send real and (maybe) long well-written letters. Oh, I love that movie too. The fact that real people write these love letters everyday and pin them to the wall is amazing. Makes you think a lot about love.

Hmmm this is interesting! 😀 A great way to let out of all the cluttering "unexpressed" thoughts to someone! <3 Like you a notebook and a pen are always my pal!

This made me reminisce the good old letters and diaries I have way back in college! Will think about sharing one.

    Thanks for this Algene!

    God Bless!
