Coffee and Conversations: Brewing Life Stories, One Post at a Time
Along Tionko Avenue lies a unique coffee shop that is perfect for people who want to have a relaxing day or chill night over good food, coffee or beer. Almost everything you need is already at Mugshots Wine and Cafe. You can come to this place with your friends and enjoy glasses of extra cold draft beer or try out their Artisan brew.
The place is also ideal for those who want to meet new people and have great conversations with random strangers turned to friends. Indeed, a lot of exciting and interesting friendships were formed at Mugshots. This fact speaks a lot how wonderful the coffee shop is. It does not only specialize in serving great coffee beverages and delicious meals, but also in connecting people with different backgrounds and interests.
I think what makes their coffee beverages special is that you only have limited choices, yet everything tastes really great. For me, coffee is supposed to be enjoyed and that’s what I always get when I visit the place. I drink coffee not only because I expect Caffeine to keep me awake on drowsy days but also for the experience. During the Davao Food Crawl, we had a chance to try 90+ Baru Black/Geisha Coffee brewed using the pour-over method.
Coffee-lovers can order the following from Mugshots: Short Black or Espresso, Long Black or Americano, Latte, Cappuccino and Flat White. If you are into brewed coffee, you can also try the Artisan Breau (named after the owner of the place). The beans that are available every day are Kalita Wave and Hario V60, but you can always ask the barista if they have other fresh coffee beans. For the add-ons, there are only three choices namely Caramel, Chocolate
The latest tea offering of Mugshots Wine and Cafe is their Cold Brew Tea, which is originally handcrafted by the owner. Breau was kind enough to show us how he completes the brewing process for the tea. The finished product is shown in the photo above, but those that are for retail are already placed in bottles. For other varieties of tea beverages, you can always choose from Matcha Green Tea Latte, House Blend, Jasmine, Mixed Berry Infused and Passion Fruit Infused Tea.
Who can’t say no to sweets? Some people prefer to have chitchats with friends over sugary drinks instead of the usual bottles of beer or cups of coffee. If you are one of them, then you will surely be happy with the Smoothies available at Mugshots. It is available in four flavors: Cookies and Cream, Rocky Road, Mixed Berries and Strawberry. All smoothies are priced at PHP 150 only.
The beer served at Mugshots has a price ranged from PHP 80 to PHP 180. As of now, they only have the following varieties to choose from: Heineken Draught (available in Half Pint and Full Pint), Heineken with Flavors (caramel, super berries, hazelnut, green apple, passion fruit), San Miguel Cerveza Negra (BBZ) and Stella Artois (BBZ).
A few months ago, food was not really the focus of Mugshots Wine and Cafe. However, the owner discovered that most of the people who frequently visit his place are always looking for food items. Because of this, he started experimenting the recipes for some dishes and introduced them to his patrons.
The food item that caught my attention is the Buffalo Chicken with the Spicy Buffalo Sauce. The chicken wings were cooked to perfection – crispy and tasty. I also love the idea that the sauce is not mixed together with the chicken. As such, I can decide how much sauce I would like to put in every bite. The best part of all is when I discovered that the satisfying dish costs only PHP 199!
It was also my first time to try the Chicken Adobo Pasta. I think Mugshots Wine and Cafe is the only place in Davao that serves this kind of pasta. Imagine Spaghetti pasta mixed with shredded chicken adobo and other secret ingredients in one plate! The taste was unusual yet interesting for me and it actually felt good to have something new from a local food establishment.
But if you will ask me about my favorite, my personal choice is (and will always be) the English Style Breakfast. This hearty meal is made up of sausage, bacon, egg, beans, bread and mushroom. The serving is generous and for me, it’s perfect even for lunch and dinner.
