The Fault in Our Stars Movie Quotes

One of the best feelings in the world is falling in love with the right person especially when you least expect it. It feels great to meet someone who shares the same interests with you, who makes you feel happy when your world has turned upside down and who gives you more reasons to be grateful for every single day in your life. The worst feeling of all is knowing that the time you share with the one you love is only a borrowed time. One day, you wake up and realize that your love story is only short-lived. Sooner or later, the one you love has to leave not by choice but by fate. You may feel that time is a slut for screwing you, your lover and your beautiful love story. Nevertheless, you still feel happy and thankful that you have spent forever with him within the numbered days.

This basically describes the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters in the best-selling novel of John Green entitled The Fault in Our Stars. Their love story is perfectly amazing and I was able to appreciate it more after seeing its movie adaptation. The leading stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort did great in portraying the major characters of Hazel and Augustus. They were effective in making viewers  feel so much love, hope and pain (especially for those who have read the book). I must say that the movie has given justice to the novel.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I was crying while watching the film. The movie is undeniably heartbreaking., it can certainly drive anyone to tears. Even if I knew what would happen (and was preparing for it), I still feel immeasurable sadness all throughout the 2 hours and 5 minutes of TFIOS. I had to ask myself again, “Why does it have to end that way?” It could have been better if Hazel and Augustus shared special moments for more days… for longer infinity. Since John Green has chosen to end their love story that way, I am left (again) with no choice but to accept a painful ending. Maybe it had to end that way to remind everyone the importance of living life to the fullest and loving a deserving person deeply because no one knows how long it will last. Indeed, life is short so make the best out from it.

To give you an idea of the movie, you can see this trailer:

As we all know, not all scenes from the book were shown in the The Fault in Our Star Movie. Also to give you an idea which parts of the love story of Hazel and Augustus were showcased, you can check the movie quotes below:

The Fault in Our Stars Movie Quotes

“I believe we have a choice in this world about how to tell sad stories. On the one hand, you can sugarcoat it. Nothing is too messed up that can’t be fixed with a Peter Gabriel Song. I like that version as much as the next girl does. It’s just not the truth.”

“Depression is not a side effect of cancer. It’s the side effect of dying which is what is happening to me.”

“Hey, make some friends.”

“I’m a roller coaster that only goes up my friend.”

“Can you share your fear?”

“Oblivion.”

“Oblivion is inevitable. And if it scares you, my suggestion is that you avoid it.”

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because you’re beautiful.”

“Come on Hazel Grace, take a risk.”

“If you want rainbow, you have to deal with the rain.”

“What’s your story?”

“I already told you.”

“No, no, not your cancer story. Your real story.”

“…It’s about embracing your destiny and leaving a mark in history.”

“People don’t understand the promises they are making when they make them.”

“It’s so truthful. You die in the middle of your life or in the middle of a sentence.”

“That’s the thing about pain, it demands to be felt.”

“Okay.”

“Okay.”

“Perhaps okay will be our always.”

“Okay.”

“Oh, such a beautiful day.”

“You can let go sweetie. Don’t be afraid.”

“Hello?? This silence is defeaning…”

“What’s the matter? Talk to me.”

“I don’t know. Everything… It’s just everything I guess.”

“The sky is making me sad…”

“I am in love with you Hazel Grace. And I know that love is just a shout into the void and that oblivion is inevitable…and I am in love with you. All of your efforts to keep me away from you are going to fail.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.”

“I’m a grenade. One day, I’m going to blow up, and I’m going to obliterate everything in my wake. And I don’t want to hurt you.”

“I’m in love with you. And you are with me.”

“Augustus.”

“I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”

“A drawing of a thing is not the thing itself.”

“Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.”

“Try to recapture happiness in you… Think of all the beauty that’s still left in and around you and be happy.”

“I fell in love with him the way he fall asleep.”

“Apparently, the world is not a wish granting factory.”

“I don’t think you’re dying Augustus. You just have a touch of cancer.”

“It’s a good life Hazel grace.”

“It’s not over yet.”

“There’s no way of knowing that your last good day is Your Last Good Day. At the time, it is just another good day…”

“Even if you died, I’d always be your mother. It’s the greatest thing I’ll ever be.”

“But you of all people know that it’s possible to live with pain.”

“My name is Hazel. Augustus Waters was the great star-crossed love of of my life. Ours was an epic love story, and I won’t be able to get more than a sentence into it without disappearing into a puddle of tears. Gus knew. Gus knows. I will not tell you our love story, because like all real love stories, it will die with us. As it should. I’d hoped that he’d be eulogizing me, because there is no one I’d rather have. I can’t talk about our love story, so I will talk about math. I am not a mathematician, but I know this. There is an infinite between 0 and 1. There’s .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many days of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I’m likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. You have me a forever within the numbered days, and I’m grateful.”

“It was unbearable. The whole thing. Every second was worse than the last.”

“… The nurse asked me about the pain, and I couldn’t even speak, so I held up nine fingers. Later, after they’d given me something, the nurse came in and she was kind of stroking my head while she took my blood pressure and said, ‘You know how I know you’re a fighter? You called a ten a nine.’ But that wasn’t quite right. I called it a nine because I was saving my ten. And here it was, the great and terrible ten, slamming me again and again as I lay still and alone in my bed staring at the ceiling, the waves tossing me against the rocks then pulling me back out to sea so they could launch me again into the jagged face of the cliff, leaving me floating faceup on the water, undrowned.”

“She is so beautiful. You don’t get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is. She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I am so lucky to love her… You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers.”

My daughter is such an eager beaver to watch this movie in the big screen. It's not yet shown here. I kept telling her to read the book to have an idea and she'd tell me it would ruin the surprise. I guess, after reading all these wonderful quotes from the movie, I'd wait for it to be shown and allow myself to enjoy it with my princess. I think, we have to carry lots of tissues too. 🙂

So no matter how my partner asked me to, I didn't literally.
The trailer is really wonderful, i get that, but if there is one theme I'd like to avoid in movies are those that feature sickness.
The way this post is presented, i would have to agree with you..
Its a wonderful movie, I even heard from a friend that the film has a lot more dept and feeling than the book itself, which I think is an applaud for the main actors.
Their chemistry seems really palpable on screen. 🙂
